NEEKA Volunteers Help War-Affected People in Ukraine.

Volunteering in Ukraine has become a vital lifeline for people affected by the war. The International Charitable Foundation “Region Carpathians” (NEEKA), founded in 1998 in Mukachevo, actively provides assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, stateless individuals, and Roma communities.

Initially, the foundation focused on environmental and social projects: planting trees, supporting schools, and conducting educational programs for children and youth. Since the start of the war, the organization’s activities have expanded significantly. Today, volunteers provide:

  • Psychological and legal support

  • Essential supplies: Distribution of food, clothing, and hygiene products.

  • Housing: Repairing accommodations for displaced persons.

  • Education and Culture: Organizing cultural and educational events for children.

Leadership Perspective

Albert Pirchak – director of NEEKA

The foundation’s director, Albert Pirchak, emphasizes:

“Earth Day is a day that reminds us of our planet. Taking care of the Earth is everyone’s duty. We strive to care not only for nature but also for the people around us.”

The Impact of Volunteering

Volunteers note that supporting people involves not only material aid but also emotional connection:

“We try to ensure that everyone who reaches out to us feels heard and understood,” says one of the foundation’s employees.

Another adds:

“When you see how small steps of help change someone’s life, you realize that our work is truly important.”

According to the volunteers, the organization also conducts workshops and training sessions for children, provides first aid, and assists people during their most difficult moments. Every project is aimed at making people feel safer and giving them a chance to rebuild their lives even in difficult circumstances.

The NEEKA Foundation demonstrates that through collective effort, it is possible to change lives for the better and support those in need. Volunteering in Ukraine has become not just a tool for aid, but a symbol of unity and mutual support within society.
